Design gift box opening experience: clear sequence, easy to use

Open gift box with neat lining paper, white card and product set

The unboxing experience, often called unboxing, starts from receiving the gift until taking out the product. With corporate gifts, thoughtfulness should be demonstrated through clear opening and convenient use. Adding more layers does not necessarily make the recipient more satisfied.

Identify each step of opening the box

List the steps: open the outer layer, open the lid, read the tag and take the product. See which steps require tools, are likely to drop items, or cause embarrassment. Each class should have a clear task of protection, presentation or instruction.

Arrange layers around the product

IngredientsPurpose needs to be determined
Lining paperProtect surfaces or create openings
InsertHold the package and assist with removal
CardShort messages or helpful instructions

The tray needs to hold the product but not obscure information or force the recipient to bend it forcefully. Lining paper and cards should be in an easy-to-understand place. With long-distance gifts, consider shipping protection from the beginning.

Try it with people who don't know how to design

For those who do not know how to design, open the sample and observe. Remember where they stopped, the maneuvers were difficult, and the details were noticed. Then let the staff try on the set to check the timing and risk of errors.

If the ribbon only increases an opening step without providing protection or identification, you can try removing it. Compare the two models to see how your experience and performance change.

Measure performance against goals

Evaluate according to the chosen goal: easier opening, reduced closing errors, or fewer instructional questions. Unboxing video views are not enough to conclude that design increases sales.

Should tags be added to every gift set?

Cards are suitable when they have a helpful message or instructions. If the content already appears in an easy-to-read place, adding tags may just create repetition.

Send SquareBag the gift set and experience goal to try out the appropriate opening sequence.
