Seaworthy paper packaging: moisture control from warehouse to destination

SquareBag ·

Export cartons have corner braces and neat protective materials

Paper packaging for sea travel can go through warehouses, ports, containers and receiving warehouses with different conditions. Moisture control needs to be considered throughout the entire journey. An outer covering may not be able to handle moisture from the goods or pallets inside.

Determine where the moisture is coming from

Inspect goods, boxes, pallets and packing areas. Record waiting times, delivery routes and conditions at the destination. If the goods are damp, the cause needs to be treated before choosing a barrier layer or desiccant material.

Design configuration according to risk

Test areaThings to confirm
Boxes and cratesMaterial code, loading, changed after test conditions
PalletsDry condition and fixed configuration
Protective layerPurpose, closure and risk of keeping moisture inside

If using barrier bags or desiccants, agree on the purpose, quantity and location with the party in charge of packaging. Do not apply a general amount to all batches; Need to calculate according to material, volume and journey.

Test both load and environmental conditions

Try configuring the correct row, box and protection layer. If the ISTA procedure is used, select the correct procedure for the tester. A single drop is not considered attempted under ISTA.

Containers that are good when dry may change after being stored in a humid environment. Record the pre-test and pre-delivery conditions so that the results are meaningful when comparing options.

Save data received at destination

When received at destination, capture bales, stacks and soft or deformed positions. Clear feedback helps distinguish moisture problems from loading or impact.

Can moisture-proof paper be called water-resistant?

Moisture resistance and water resistance are two different requirements. It is necessary to confirm the conditions and limitations of the correct material code before using these descriptions.
