Food paper box materials: choose according to dish and usage

SquareBag ·

Food paper box with separate inner lining

Food paper box materials need to be suitable for the dish and conditions of use. Containers for dry cakes, oily dishes or hot sauce have different requirements. Before choosing paper, clearly describe how the food will come into contact with the box.

Create usage records before choosing paper

Record whether the dish is dry or wet, amount of oil, hot or cold, holding time and whether to reheat. If using a microwave or other appliance, confirm the box specifications are correct; Paper material is not enough to draw appropriate conclusions.

Request proof of correct product code

Records need to be attached to materials and finished products after printing, coating, and pasting. The documentation of the raw paper does not cover every step by itself. Discuss the scope of use and market so that the supplier can determine the required evidence.

For the EU market, PPWR regulates limits on PFAS, a group of chemicals, in food contact packaging from August 12, 2026. It is necessary to check the profile of the correct configuration according to PPWR text.

Test the finished product with the real thing

Test the box with the real thing within the expected time and temperature of use. Observe bottom softening, leakage, deformation and opening operations. Kitchen testing helps evaluate performance, but does not replace material safety testing.

When switching from dry cake to hot sauce, it is necessary to check the paper, backing layer and conditions of use even though the size remains the same. New needs may require a different material.

Are coated boxes still recyclable?

Recyclability depends on coating, post-use soiling level and receiving location. Don't draw conclusions for the entire box based on paper ratio alone.

Send SquareBag sample dishes and serving methods to jointly determine material requirements before approving the box.
