Reducing box residue improves packaging, but PPWR assessment requires the correct scope and legal methodology. The 50% limit is not a universal ratio for all sales boxes.
Determine the correct type of packaging and applicable mold
Article 24 places limits on what group packaging, shipping and e-commerce are within scope. The milestone is January 1, 2030 or three years after the relevant implementing document takes effect, whichever is later. See Article 24 PPWR.
Prepare data for appropriate calculations
Save box size, product set and protective layer structure. Insertion material cannot be assumed to reduce regulatory gaps. The person in charge needs to use the correct calculation method and watch for exceptions.
| Purpose | How to use data |
|---|---|
| Internal improvements | Compare volume, materials, costs and errors before and after |
| Compliance records | Use the prescribed method and scope |
| Customer approval | Record version, basis, and endorser |
Try on box size and product protection
When shrinking the box, recheck the tray, placement direction and impact hazard. The protection range for glass goods is different from garments, so do not duplicate configurations between the two groups.
Test representative orders and record quality after delivery. This data helps with internal improvements, but is not enough to declare compliance on its own without taking the appropriate legal approach.
What to do in 2026?
In the 2026 plan, businesses can check large residual boxes and prepare data. Before finalizing the application to the EU, discuss current requirements with the client's compliance contact.
Send SquareBag the package and box size you are using to try out a plan to reduce excess while still protecting the product.
